Rakahanga (10°S 161°W) is a tiny atoll (about 4 km2) in the northern Cook Islands. The nearest hospital is in the Cook Islands capital of Rarotonga some 1248 km away, making this is one of the more remote health-care centres in the world. Although less grand than the magnificent Ospedale Civile in Venice, which featured on the cover of last month's of QJM, it is held in no less affection by the people who use it.
