Cover Figure

In the small ex-Portuguese colony of Guinnea-Bissau in West Africa--one of the poorest countries in the world--football is a passion. When boys are not kicking a ball around a dusty pitch barefoot, or watching their favourite Portuguese club play on a communal television set, they find ingenious ways to satisfy their obsession. Who needs computer games when you have an inventive mind, an old crate and a lime from the tree in the back yard? For these boys from Bissau, the next best thing to playing or watching the game on a pitc is a frantic game of table football.
