Shoes on the Danube Promenade-Budapest
The Shoes on the Danube Promenade created by Gyula Pauer and Can Togay, is a memorial on the bank of the Danube River in Budapest, Hungary. It is located on the Pest side of the City at the end of Szechenyi Street, about 300 m south of the Hungarian Parliament building.
The Shoes are a memorial to the Budapest Jews who fell victim to the Arrow Cross militiamen and depicts their shoes left behind on the bank when they fell into river having been shot during World War II. It is a poignant depiction of one of the world's darkest events.
