Standing Stones of Stenness
Standing on the south eastern shore of the Stenness loch on the island of Orkney, the sheer scale of the megaliths that make up the stones of Stenness make the monument visible for miles around. Radio carbon dating has shown that the site dates from at least 3100 BC, making the stones one of the earliest stone circles in Britain.
