Daniel Lambert
Daniel Lambert, reputedly the largest man in England, died in Stamford, Lincolnshire, in 1809, aged 39 years. At the time of his death, he weighed 739 lb (335 kg), and it is said that it took 20 men to lower his coffin into his grave in St Martin's churchyard. His portrait now hanges in the Mayor's office of Stamford Town Hall, and is reproduced here by kind permission of Stamford Town Council.
